LaJunta June Chastain Jewell, 83, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at her home in Guthrie. Memorial service was to be at 10 a.m. today in Faith Bible Church in Edmond with the Rev. Dr. Mark Hitchcock officiating. Committal prayers and interment will be at 2 p.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulsa. She was born July 27, 1925, in Sand Springs, the daughter of Ernest and Jewell Hale Chastain.

She married Robert Conrad Jewell in July of 1945. They were married 55 years when he preceded her in death May 19, 2000. They made their home in Duncan, where her husband was affiliated with Halliburton. While living in Duncan, she was a member of a local garden club, a creative writing club and the American Association of University Women. She completed her college degree in 1982, graduating from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha.

After the death of her husband, she moved to Guthrie to be closer to her family. She is survived by her daughters: Sandra Wallace and her husband, Gary, and Amanda Rutledge and her husband, Tommy, all of Guthrie, and Barbara Rucker of Tulsa; five grandchildren: Jeff Rutledge, Chad Rutledge, Armin Rucker, Jacob Rucker and Patrick Rucker; and five great-grandchildren: Tanner Rutledge, Logan Rutledge, Kaden Rutledge, Lulu Rucker and Armin Rucker Jr. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 2227 E. Skelly Drive, Tulsa, OK 74105.
