Vocal Jazz Ensemble Concert Heats Up Stage March 12
The spring temperature is not the only thing heating up in Chickasha. USAO's Vocal Jazz Ensemble will heat up the Alumni Chapel on March 12 at 7:30 p.m. with its spring concert. The performance is free and open to the public.
"The concert will feature several acappella numbers as well as selections with piano, upright bass and drums," said Dr. Ken Bohannon, associate professor of music and director of the Vocal Jazz Ensemble. "In addition to choral selections with the ensemble, several of the members will be singing various jazz solos from the standard jazz repertoire."
Repertoire for the concert includes Love Walked In, I Got Rhythm, It Never Entered My Mind, Hello Young Lovers, Twisted, All or Nothing at All, Moon River, Stars in the Moon, Fever, As Time Goes By, Can't Help Lovin' That Man and Ghost of a Chance.
The ensemble has performed locally for the MacDowell Music Club, the Rotary Club and Lions Club. The group recently performed in the Bernstein Festival at USAO. They are scheduled to take a mini-tour through Texas en route to New Orleans during the Independent Study session in April. The group's fall concert served as a fundraiser for the trip.
Members of the ensemble include Elizabeth Sellers, a music major from Chickasha; Crystal Davis, a music major from Oklahoma City; Katelin Thomson, a music major from Chickasha; Brittany Mealier, a music major from Okay; Amanda Whitchard, a drama major from Muskogee; Scott Pitts, a music major from Comanche; Joshua Smith, a music major from Blanchard; Phillip Hill, a music major from Duncan; Jerod Frizzell, a music major from Lindsay; Matthew Pitts, a music major from Comanche; Adam Hackett, a computer science major from Norman; Mac Stephenson, a business major from Healdton; Chance Wilson, a psychology major from Fletcher; ; Bryan Franklin, a music major from Anadarko; Ty Greenhalgh (drums), a music major from Chickasha; Logan Rogers (upright bass), a music major from Duncan, and staff accompanist Rhenada Finch.
