Vollmar earns Staff Achievement Award

Tuesday, July 9, 2013

USAO News Writer Rob Vollmar was awarded the Regents Staff Achievement Award for the fourth quarter of 2012-13.

Vollmar received several nominations for the award. One nominee described him as “one of a kind.”

“He’s flexible enough to take many different assignments that fall outside his primary job description. He believes in the mission with heart and soul. He lifts the mood in most every meeting, and he accepts praise and criticism with equal caution,” the nomination continued.

Other nominees described Vollmar as a positive, outgoing person and someone who represents the university well every day.

“Rob has always been a stalwart example of professionalism at USAO,” one nomination said. “His dedication to the media and community relations office as well as the university is an inspiring example that should be followed.”

Vollmar, a 1995 English graduate from USAO, is responsible for writing most of the university’s news and marketing content and manages social media for the university.

He has been a member of the USAO staff since 2010.

He has written three books and hundreds of journal articles, including work for World Literature Today and Liberal Artistry. He currently is working on a project called EmpowerED, which is an online public liberal education journal.

Vollmar was presented the award by Jessica Jackson, interim director of media and community relations, sports information director and Employee of the Year for 2011-12.

The Regents Staff Achievement Award is presented quarterly to one outstanding staff member. From these award winners, an Employee of the Year recipient is selected. That person will be recognized at the USAO Board of Regents meeting in September.
